Helping Hands

Honestly, what would we do without helping hands?

I think of them often. There really are so many helpful people in this world and tonight I was reminded of it especially.

We have a food pantry at our church and today was the delivery. 3 pallets of food were delivered. THREE. BIG. ONES.

I was at work when it got there, but it was delivered and people were helping out. Helping take the boxes off the truck, stacking them up so nicely and let me tell ya, there was a pile!

Tonight when I got to the pantry there was someone there putting the stuff on the shelves. And then a few kids showed up and they were glad to lend a hand, too.

We were almost finished loading the shelves and there was a mound of boxes. Like loads of them. Everywhere. I was actually thinking about just leaving them until tomorrow ’cause I was dog tired.  And you know who showed up? Some teenagers from our church. They all helped and worked together and all of the boxes were taken out. *sigh* Do you think God knows when we need helping hands? I do.

My heart just swelled with gratitude for those who have lent their helping hands. Lent helping hands for people in need. For people that need some food this week. People just going through a rough patch. I have been there. Have you?

When we were little, my parents were in ministry and I remember eating out of our church’s pantry. I am thankful for the helping hands of those long ago that brought the food to our church, and now I am thankful to be able to lend a hand and give back.

It really is a privilege to extend a hand. We all need one at times, don’t we?

Thank you all for the helping hands in my life. I truly don’t take them lightly.

Look around – there are helping hands all around. Are some of them yours?

I’m reminded of the verse in Exodus, “But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.” (Exodus 17:12)

You never know who you may be helping by lending your hand. You may be the reason someone makes it. Why someone keeps plodding along.

If you need a hand, grab the Savior’s – He’s always there. Grab the hand of a friend. Grab mine. Extend yours in return.

Helping hands are a beautiful thing, my friend.

Tomorrow I will see more of them. People grabbing food off of shelves and loading them into people’s cars. People holding doors. People smiling and just caring.

Help on.
